Kieslowski(Polish Director)

I heard the reputation of Kieslowski before, but it was not until I watched "Camera Buff" and "A Short Film About Love" did I have interests in him and his film.

I agree with him that the love is the process when you sacrifice all of youself and demand nothing from the one you love. I think it's the puriest spiritual level. I felt so touched when I watched this scene.

But it's so complicated because maybe love also has to be the mutual feeling. When you offere a lot and receive few, or vice versa, maybe the love becomes not love. I imagine when you're mutual and nearly equal can this love becomes the whole. Well,I don't really know.

Kieslowski intended to go on the diet on purpose in order to evade the military service. He's similar to Taiwanese guys who try every mean to evade their military sercive. Though they're different time and nations, I found out the common phenomenon. This is very interesting. (When he was the most skinny,he was only 56kg for his 181cm figure. Marvelous! I wish I could have touched his skeleton,it might be exciting. Well, don't blame me that I'm erotic. It's just cos that I'm plump so the skeleton is attractive to me relatively. Imaging that there's no extra fat on the stomach,oh my...)

He said in the book "I believe that there are a lot of things that belong to the part of my life, but I can't be sure if they really happened on me. I have the vivid memory to these events, but it might merely be possible that other people once talked about them. In other words, I stole the events from other people's life.I don't even remember where did I steal them. I can't remember anything now. After stealing them,I started to believe that they did happen on me."

This paragraph is very intriguing. Few weeks ago, I had just discussed with my friend how the description and discourse can alter the memory.

Kieslowski had the difficulty to distinguish the real and the imagination. He was diagnosed as schizophrenia that is the same as Stephan in La Science des Rêves. (starred by Gabriel Garcia Bernal, one of my favorite movie star. I adore him for he acted so skillful, and for his black hair, black eyes, and brilliant smile.) This disease is mysterious.

He also mentioned the cultural difference between European culture and American culture. This interests me a lot, too. He said that when the American audience watched one of his film, they couldn't understand the meaning of the ending. He said the European audience would have understood cos the concept of homeland is very important to Europeans, for instance, when we read "Odyssey." He said that Americans move a lot, and that's why they couldn't understand the significance of the homeland.

In this point,I felt that European culture is close to Chinese culture. But I was a bit surprised cos I thought Europeans also move a lot, especially after the establishment of EU. For example, one of my Spanish friend moved from Spain to France,Italy,Spain again, and then England. I feel that he's like the flâneur. Once I asked him "You don't feel anxious or lack of the sense of security when you move so often?" Cos for me,I prefer to stay in the place for at least like 1 to 2 months, I don't like move all the time, it will makes me anxious and fatigued.

OK,time for me to go to bed. Maybe I'll talk more about the content of this book tomorrow cos it's an intriguing book that evokes my memory and inspiration. Or maybe I'll commence a new topic. Well, depends.
